What "Wood Veneer" Means on an Eastopo Panel

A wood veneer wall panel from Eastopo carries the look of natural timber on a rigid PVC build. The wood grain you see is a decorative PVC film, laminated to the panel face and sealed under a UV-cured topcoat — not a slice of real wood, and not a wood-fibre board. The core underneath is either hollow core PVC, made for wall and ceiling cladding, or solid UV-coated PVC board for large-format wall surfaces. Call it veneer-effect, wood-grain PVC or wood effect panelling: the build is the same, and the build is what performs.

That distinction matters more in a tender than it does in a showroom. Real wood veneer is a thin layer of actual timber bonded to a substrate. It looks superb and it moves with every humidity swing — it cups, it checks, it needs re-sealing, and it carries a genuine fire and moisture risk on commercial walls. A PVC wood-grain panel removes those variables while keeping the oak, walnut or teak reading a specifier is after. Every sheet in the batch carries the same film, so a 60-metre wall run reads as one continuous surface, and the certificate file stays the same from first sample to final container.

For buyers comparing wood veneer wall panel manufacturers, the questions to ask are about the core and the film, not the name. What is the panel made of? Which widths and thicknesses are stock? What is the water absorption test result? What certificate travels with the batch? Wall panels run 600 mm or 1000 mm wide in 8 mm or 10 mm hollow core. Ceiling panels follow the PVC ceiling panel widths, from 100 to 600 mm, in 5 to 8 mm thickness. Default length on both is 2400 mm, and lengths cut to order. The answers on this page are the answers Eastopo gives on samples, on datasheets and on the export paperwork.

Two Builds, One Timber Look: Hollow Core and Solid Board

The range splits into two physical builds, and choosing between them is a site decision, not a style decision. Both carry the same wood-grain face options, both are manufactured in the same Haining facility, and both ship under one certificate trail.

Hollow core wall and ceiling panels are extruded PVC profiles with parallel rectangular channels running the length of the sheet, enclosed by solid PVC skins. The channels keep the panel light — one fitter carries and cuts a sheet on site — while the skin takes the screw and the finish. These are the panels for wall runs, ceilings, shower rooms, corridors and anything that needs cladding speed. Wall panels run 600 mm or 1000 mm wide in 8 mm or 10 mm hollow core; ceiling panels follow the PVC ceiling panel widths from 100 to 600 mm in 5 to 8 mm. Default length is 2400 mm on both, with custom lengths cut to order. Every sheet joins to the next on a tongue-and-groove profile, machined for a positive mechanical lock.

Solid UV wood-grain boards are large-format sheets — 1220 mm wide, 2440/2600/2900 mm long, 2.0–5.0 mm thick — with the wood-grain decorative layer sealed under a UV-cured coating at 2H+ pencil hardness. The solid PVC substrate gives a flat, rigid surface with few joints per wall, which is why specifiers reach for it on reception walls, lift lobbies, feature walls and joinery panels where a 4×8 ft module suits the design. It is the same construction family as Eastopo’s UV marble sheet line, with timber-grain faces instead of stone veining.

One product family, two stock answers. If a job is 60 sqm of corridor cladding with a tight programme, the hollow core panel is the faster fix. If it is a boardroom wall that has to read as one seamless timber plane, the solid board is the spec. The section below puts numbers on both.

Wall Panels: 600 mm and 1000 mm Hollow Core

The hollow core wall panel range is quoted in two widths. The 600 mm panel covers standard wall and ceiling-height jobs with a joint count low enough for clean commercial runs. The 1000 mm panel is the wide-format board — a 2-metre wall plane takes just two panels and one mechanical joint, which is the spec that wins shower rooms, hotel refurbishments and fast-fit commercial walls. The table below is the data Eastopo prints on the batch certificate.

Ceiling Panels: Matching the PVC Ceiling Panel Range

The ceiling panel line shares its width programme with the Eastopo PVC ceiling panel range, so a distributor can run walls and ceilings from one order with one quality standard. Thickness is 5 to 8 mm, which keeps the sheet light on the suspension grid while staying rigid across the span.

Solid UV Wood-Grain Boards: 1220 mm Wall Sheets

The solid board line is quoted in the large-format sheet sizes below. It is the same table Eastopo uses for its UV-coated board family, with timber-grain faces in place of marble veining.

Parameter Value Note
Core structure Solid PVC board Flat, rigid, no internal channels
Sheet size 1220 mm wide; 2440 / 2600 / 2900 mm long 4×8 ft module plus full-height options
Thickness 2.0 – 5.0 mm Thicker boards for high-traffic walls
Material PVC substrate with a screened proportion of recycled PVC; calcium-zinc stabilisers Lead-free, cadmium-free formulation
Surface Wood-grain decorative layer under a UV-cured coating, 2H+ pencil hardness Gloss that holds the grain
Water absorption ≤ 0.5% (EN 13245-2 §5.4) Wet-area capable surface
Certification CE EN 13245-2 Solid PVC profiles
Protection PE protective film, removed after installation Shipping protection, not a finish
Use Interior wall surfaces and feature panels Indoor only

A 1220×2440 mm solid board is a true 4×8 ft sheet and covers 2.98 sqm — the same arithmetic importers already use on the marble-effect line. For non-standard ceiling heights the 2600 and 2900 mm lengths cut wastage on commercial storeys where the wall runs full height.

Hollow Core or Solid Board: How to Choose

Both builds carry the same face, so the decision sits on site conditions, logistics and how the wall will be used. The table below is the one Eastopo sales engineers work through with distributors and contractors.

Factor Hollow core panels Solid UV boards
Typical job Walls, ceilings, corridors, shower rooms Feature walls, lobbies, boardroom planes, joinery
Format 600 / 1000 mm wide wall plank or 100 – 600 mm ceiling panel, T&G edges 1220 mm wide sheet, jointed on site
Weight 3.5 – 4.5 kg/m² by thickness Solid sheet, heavier per m²
Seams One joint per 600 / 1000 mm panel Fewer seams; 2.98 sqm per 4×8 ft sheet
Fixing Adhesive or screw through the T&G tongue Structural adhesive, full-surface bedding
Ceilings Yes — light enough for soffits Wall surfaces; not a soffit board
Water absorption ≤ 0.5% (EN 13245-2 §5.4) ≤ 0.5% (EN 13245-2 §5.4)
Fire classification EN 13501-1 B-s2,d0 Check project requirement against datasheet

The honest rule: for volume cladding where speed and light weight win, take hollow core. For a wall that has to read as one flat timber surface with the fewest possible joints, take the solid board. Mixed projects order both — hollow core for the corridors, solid boards for the reception plane — and the MOQ structure below is built so one container can carry both.

How the Wood-Grain Face Is Made: Film and UV Cure

The face is where veneer-effect panels are won or lost, and it is made in two stages. On hollow core panels a decorative wood-grain PVC film is laminated to the panel face during production, then sealed with a UV-cured topcoat at 2H pencil hardness or better. On solid boards the wood-grain decorative layer sits under a UV-cured coating rated 2H+ — the same coating line Eastopo runs for its UV sheet family. In both cases the film is a continuous layer, which is what separates a lamination from a printed surface that wears through at the edges.

Lamination gives a distributor three things worth selling. First, continuity: the grain runs identically across every sheet in the batch, so repeat orders land the same face. Second, durability: the film resists scratching and edge wear, and the UV topcoat blocks yellowing in sun-facing rooms and retail frontages. Third, hygiene: the sealed face is non-porous, so grease, marker and grime wipe off with a damp cloth and no solvent.

Grain options run across the timber palette buyers actually order — oak, walnut, teak, grey-oak and the lighter maple and ash reads — each locked by shade number. When a project needs a custom colour, the film supplier programme lets Eastopo match a buyer’s reference and hold that shade across production runs. That is the OEM conversation; the numbers for it are in the ordering section below.

Where Real Wood Veneer Lets a Commercial Job Down

This section is not a timber smear campaign — real veneer has its places, and Eastopo says so to buyers who ask. But on commercial walls the failure modes are real, and they are expensive because they show up after handover.

Moisture is the first. Real wood veneer on a solid substrate swells and cups when humidity swings, and a single water event at a skirting line can lift a veneer face beyond repair. A PVC wood-grain panel absorbs no more than 0.5% water tested to EN 13245-2 Section 5.4 — the same 0.5% number on both builds on this page — so kitchens, bathrooms, corridors and coastal regions stop being a risk conversation.

Batch variation is the second. Timber grain varies board to board, and matching a 40-sheet feature wall in real veneer takes labour and waste on site. Film faces are identical by shade number, so the 40 sheets arrive matching and stay matching on reorders a year later.

Maintenance is the third. Real veneer needs sanding, sealing and re-finishing on a schedule, and every cycle takes the wall out of service. The sealed PVC face needs a damp cloth. For hotels, clinics and offices with cleaning contracts, that difference is written into the running cost before the panels are fitted.

None of this argues that veneer-effect PVC replaces timber everywhere. It argues that where water, carts, children or cleaning chemicals live, the engineered panel is the lower-risk specification — and that a buyer comparing wood veneer wall panel suppliers should ask for the test data, not the showroom photograph.

Factory, MOQ and Lead Times

Eastopo runs both builds out of its Haining facility, where 36 extrusion lines across the factory cover PVC wall and ceiling panels, acoustic panels and roofing membranes, with a combined monthly PVC panel capacity of 600,000–800,000 m². That capacity is what makes OEM work painless: a distributor’s private-label shade can be scheduled without starving the stock lines.

The MOQ is 500 m² per colour and finish — across the hollow core wall panel widths, the ceiling panel range and the solid board line alike. Stock colours leave in 18–22 days; custom films, matched shades and private-label packaging run 28–35 days from confirmation. Sample cards and cut samples ship in a few days so the specification can be frozen before production starts.

Eastopo quotes EXW, FOB, CFR or CIF. The factory team handles container loading, export documentation and batch certificates, and ships to the UK, EU, US, Australia and New Zealand on the same port programme used by the existing distributor network. The three product pages in this range — [wood-veneer-paneling](https://www.eastopo.com/wood-veneer-wall-panel/wood-veneer-paneling.html), [veneer-wood-panel-wall](https://www.eastopo.com/wood-veneer-wall-panel/veneer-wood-panel-wall.html) and [wood-wall-veneer](https://www.eastopo.com/wood-veneer-wall-panel/wood-wall-veneer.html) — carry the application and installation detail for each buying angle.

Compliance and Test Data You Can Cite

Every claim on this page is backed by a test or a certificate that ships with the batch. Water absorption on both builds is ≤ 0.5%, tested to EN 13245-2 Section 5.4 — the same standard behind the CE marking on this product family (CE EN 13245-2, hollow core certificate no. SC-PSC-4-2026-06-54). The hollow core range carries fire classification EN 13501-1 Class B-s2,d0, referenced for interior wall and ceiling surfaces across the EU and UK. The solid board line is CE-certified to EN 13245-2 for solid PVC profiles; where a project specifies a fire-rated assembly, the requirement is checked against the solid-board datasheet before pricing, because a decorative panel should never be assumed to carry a rating it was not tested for.

The compounds are formulated with calcium-zinc stabilisers — lead-free and cadmium-free — and the decorative films are E0-class, so rooms can be occupied immediately after installation. There is no wood substrate and no wood-fibre content anywhere in the build, which is exactly why the panel does not behave like wood. Certificate copies, test reports and the batch certificate are provided with every container.

FAQ

Is a wood veneer wall panel from Eastopo real wood veneer? +

No. The wood grain on an Eastopo panel is a decorative PVC film, laminated to the panel face and sealed under a UV-cured topcoat. The core underneath is either hollow core PVC or solid PVC board — there is no wood substrate and no real timber layer. That build removes the moisture movement, batch variation and refinishing cycle of genuine wood veneer while keeping the oak, walnut or teak look.

What is the difference between the hollow core panels and the solid UV boards in this range? +

Hollow core panels split into wall and ceiling grades: wall panels run 600 mm or 1000 mm wide in 8 mm or 10 mm thickness, and ceiling panels follow the PVC ceiling panel widths from 100 to 600 mm in 5 to 8 mm. Solid UV boards are 1220 mm wide sheets, 2440/2600/2900 mm long and 2.0 – 5.0 mm thick, for walls that need one flat timber plane with few joints. All carry the same wood-grain faces and the same ≤ 0.5% water absorption test.

Can these wood-grain PVC panels be installed on ceilings as well as walls? +

Yes. The hollow core range covers both: wall panels run 600 mm or 1000 mm wide in 8 mm or 10 mm thickness, and dedicated ceiling panels follow the PVC ceiling panel widths from 100 to 600 mm in 5 to 8 mm, fixed through the tongue and groove into the ceiling structure. The solid 1220 mm boards are specified on wall surfaces and feature planes rather than soffits, where large-format sheets are harder to hold and joint. Confirm the fixing detail with the export team for ceiling applications.

Are wood veneer effect PVC panels waterproof enough for bathrooms and kitchens? +

Yes for normal wall and ceiling use. Both builds absorb no more than 0.5% water when tested to EN 13245-2 Section 5.4, and the sealed, non-porous face rejects steam and splash. In showers and wet zones, seal joints and cut edges with the matching trim, and keep the cavity behind the panel dry — the panel is waterproof, the wall structure is a separate responsibility.

Which wood grain finishes can I order? +

The stock programme runs across the timber palette buyers order most — oak, walnut, teak, grey-oak and lighter maple and ash reads — each locked by shade number so repeat orders land the same face. Custom colours are matched through the film supplier programme and held across production runs under the OEM agreement, with a MOQ of 500 m² per colour and finish.

What is the MOQ and lead time for an order? +

The MOQ is 500 m² per colour and finish on both builds. Stock colours leave the factory in 18 – 22 days from order confirmation; custom films, matched shades and private-label packaging run 28 – 35 days. Sample cards and cut samples ship within a few days so the specification can be frozen before production. Incoterms offered: EXW, FOB, CFR or CIF.

Do these panels contain wood flour, and do they release formaldehyde? +

No wood flour and no wood fibre anywhere in the build — the core is PVC and the face is a PVC film, so there is no wood substrate to rot, swell or feed mould. The decorative films are E0-class and the compounds are stabilised with calcium-zinc, lead-free and cadmium-free. Rooms can be occupied immediately after installation, which matters on school, clinic and hotel programmes with tight handover dates.

Do you run OEM or private-label programmes on this range? +

Yes. Eastopo schedules private-label shades, custom films and buyer packaging from 500 m² per colour and finish, out of a Haining facility running 36 extrusion lines with a combined monthly PVC panel capacity of 600,000 – 800,000 m². A distributor’s shade is scheduled without starving the stock lines, and the certificate trail follows the batch, not the brand.
