PVC resin on the Dalian benchmark closed at 4,848 CNY per tonne on 16 October 2026. That is 1.48% down on the day, 0.41% down on the month, and still 4.66% higher than a year ago. China spot assessments published by SunSirs put PVC at 4,800 CNY per tonne the same day, after touching 4,915 on 11 October and 4,765 on 13 October.
If you buy PVC wall panels or PVC ceiling panels, that is the number everyone will forward you this month - usually with the implication that the PVC panel price you were quoted should already have moved. It should not have moved 4.66%, and it should not have moved 1.48% either. Here is what the resin price does and does not control, and what it means for an order placed between now and Chinese New Year.
The short version
Resin is up 4.66% year on year but flat over the past month. A PVC panel price is set by four cost layers, not one, and the resin layer moves on a different clock. Model forecasts point higher for Q1 2027, which is the part worth acting on.
Where the PVC resin price actually sits
Start with the raw number, because the PVC resin price is the input every other calculation is built on.
| Date | PVC price | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 16 October 2026 | 4,848 CNY/t | Dalian benchmark, Trading Economics |
| 16 October 2026 | 4,800 CNY/t | China spot, SunSirs |
| 11 October 2026 | 4,915 CNY/t | China spot, SunSirs |
| 13 October 2026 | 4,765 CNY/t | China spot, SunSirs |
| October 2021 peak | 14,790 CNY/t | All-time high, Trading Economics |
Read the table twice, because it contains two different stories. The year-on-year line says raw material is more expensive than it was twelve months ago. The week-to-week line says the market is drifting sideways with a 3% band - 4,765 to 4,915 in six days - which is noise, not a trend. Resin traders react to that band weekly. Buyers should not - none of these numbers is a PVC panel price, and that is exactly the point.
What is actually inside a PVC panel price
A PVC wall panel is not extruded resin. It is a compound - PVC plus calcium-zinc stabiliser, filler, processing aid and pigment - and then a decorative film, a UV-cured topcoat, conversion, packing and freight. Each of those sits on its own price curve:
- Compound. The resin portion plus additives. This is the layer the benchmark price touches, and it is usually the largest single input in the ex-works cost.
- Film and topcoat. Decorative film and UV coating are separate supply chains with their own lead times. A marble-effect film and a matt white film are not the same cost, which is why two panels of identical size can differ by a wide margin.
- Conversion. Extrusion speed, yield, colour changeovers and reject rate. A custom colour with a short run carries more of this than a standard white.
- Logistics and packing. Pallet type, edge protection, container utilisation and freight. On a container of panels this line is large enough that a swing in freight can outweigh a month of resin movement.
Count those four layers on any quote you receive and you can see which one a supplier is competing on - and which one a lower PVC panel price is actually coming out of. That is also why a percentage move in resin never arrives as the same percentage move in a PVC panel price. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either simplifying for effect or has not costed a container.
Why a PVC panel price lags the resin price
There is a timing gap, and it runs in both directions. A quotation is built on the compound cost at the time it is issued, then held for a stated validity window. During that window the resin market keeps moving - sometimes against the supplier, sometimes in their favour.
For a buyer the practical consequence is simple: the useful question is not "what did the PVC resin price do yesterday" but "how long is this PVC panel price good for, and what resets it". A quote with no validity window and no stated reset condition is not a fixed price. It is an opening position.
That is also why two suppliers can quote the same panel on the same day and both be honest. One fixed compound earlier, one is quoting against a replacement cost; one is carrying a 60-day validity, one is carrying 15. The number on the page tells you less than the window attached to it.
What the forecasts are pointing at
Model-based forecasts are not facts, and we treat them as a direction rather than a promise. With that caveat: the Trading Economics model projects PVC around 5,025 CNY per tonne by the end of Q4 2026 and around 5,308 in twelve months, from 4,848 today. If that direction holds, Q1 2027 material costs more than Q4 2026 material, and the difference reaches a PVC panel price through the compound cost one quotation cycle later.
Two things usually push in the same direction at the start of a year: pre-holiday restocking ahead of Chinese New Year, and the freight calendar. Both affect when a container can actually leave, which matters more than a 1% resin move.
Perspective helps here. The benchmark peaked at 14,790 CNY per tonne in October 2021; today sits at roughly a third of that. This is not an extreme market, which is why the forecasts are modest rather than dramatic, and why panic buying would be the wrong response to a 1.5% daily print.
What this means for a Q1 PVC panel price
- Fix the volume, not just the price. A price agreed in October against a Q1 sailing is worth more than a price agreed in January against an unknown one.
- Ask for the validity window in writing. Thirty days, sixty days, or until a named compound price threshold - any of those is workable. "Today only" is a negotiating position.
- Confirm colour and finish before the run. Standard lines run 18-22 days from order to dispatch; custom colours and finishes run 28-35 days. A late colour decision eats the buffer that protects you from a resin spike.
- Hold the PVC panel price and the trim order in one decision. Trims are 300 pcs per colour, so a re-order after the panels land is a second production slot, not a phone call.

A deposit does two things in this market: it holds a production slot, and it fixes the compound assumption behind the quote. Without one, the validity window is a courtesy, not a commitment.
What we are doing about it
We extrude with calcium-zinc stabilisers, no lead and no cadmium, and the compound specification is held constant rather than adjusted to chase a cheaper PVC resin price. That costs more in a rising market, and it is the reason a batch from March and a batch from October look the same on the wall - and the part of a PVC panel price that does not move with the index.
Documentation stays with the order: CE marking to EN 13245-2:2008 under certificate SC-PSC-4-2026-06-54, valid 25 June 2026 to 24 June 2029, reaction to fire EN 13501-1 Class B-s2,d0, formaldehyde EN 717-1 Class E0, and water absorption of 0.5% or less to EN 13245-2 section 5.4. None of that changes with the resin price, and it is the part of the quote that is hardest to replace later.
Packing is part of that discipline. Pallet type, corner protection and how the bundles sit in the container decide how much arrives flat - and a claim for damaged edges costs more than the resin movement that started the argument.
Frequently asked questions
Will the PVC panel price fall if resin keeps falling?
Not one for one, and not immediately. Resin is one of four cost layers, and a quote reflects the compound cost at the time it was built plus film, conversion and freight. A sustained move in resin does eventually reach the PVC panel price; a two-week dip usually does not.
Is now a good time to place a Q1 order?
If you have a confirmed project, yes - mainly for the production slot rather than the resin. Custom colours take 28-35 days, and the pre-holiday window is the tightest part of the year. Fixing volume early is the lower-risk decision in a market that is flat month-on-month but 4.66% up year-on-year.
How much of a PVC panel price is resin?
Resin is the largest single input in the compound, but the finished panel also carries stabiliser, filler, film, UV topcoat, conversion, packing and freight. Ask any supplier to break their quote into material and conversion - a supplier who cannot is quoting a number, not a cost.
Do you publish a PVC panel price list?
No. A PVC panel price depends on width, thickness, finish, quantity, packing and Incoterm, and a list would be wrong for most buyers who read it. Send the specification and the destination port and you get a number that can actually be checked.
Planning Q1 volumes?
Send the panel specification, the quantity per colour and the destination port for a PVC panel price with a written validity window. We will quote against a stated validity window and tell you which production slot it holds.
